Nagatoro Gorge rock formations
The center of Nagatoro is a place where uplifted crystalline schist literally spreads out like a tatami mat. On the opposite bank are the cliffs known as Chichibu Sekibeki and Myojin Falls.
The Arakawa River becomes a stagnant blue pool (a place where the current is slow) near the rock formations, making it even more beautiful.
The place name "Nagatoro" comes from this view.
Trekking
Located in Nagatoro Town, Chichibu County, this 497m high mountain can be reached by the Hodosan Ropeway, which takes just five minutes from the base station.
At the summit, you'll find the inner shrine of Hodosan Shrine, as well as the Hodosan Small Animal Park, the Hodosan Plum Blossom Garden, and the Hodosan Winter Plum Garden. You can also enjoy seasonal flowers such as rhododendrons, adonis flowers, azaleas, and winter cherry blossoms.
Hodosan Ropeway
This ropeway ascends Mt. Hodo, which is 497 meters above sea level. It takes about five minutes to travel the 832 meters from the base station to the summit station.
Starting with the winter cherry blossoms that are at their best from late November, from then until mid-June, wintersweet, plum blossoms, adonis flowers, cherry blossoms, azaleas, and Sennan flowers are all at their best, and in autumn you can also enjoy the autumn leaves.
