The sea of Tatsukushi in Tosashimizu City, Kochi Prefecture, is a special area that was the first in Japan to be designated as an underwater park. As part of Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park, the beautiful natural environment is protected. Blessed by the Kuroshio Current, it is home to 107 kinds of coral and colorful tropical and migratory fish, making it a living aquarium.
Since 2001, recreational divers have been allowed into this mysterious sea. This is a field of unknown charm where you can thoroughly enjoy the precious underwater world. Surrounded by Cape Ashizuri to the east and Cape Kanae to the west, diving is possible all year round, except when affected by typhoons. The waters of Tatsukushi, Kochi, blessed by the Kuroshio Current, are home to an abundance of migratory fish and tropical fish, making them a popular spot for divers. Summer to autumn is especially the season for migratory fish! You can enjoy the spectacular sight of large fish such as amberjack, rainbow amberjack, yellowtail, and striped jack swimming in schools. The number of colorful damselfish, butterflyfish, and anthias is also on the rise, making it an underwater paradise.
From winter to early summer, the bay becomes a treasure trove of sea slugs, with over 400 species confirmed in Tatsukushi Bay. From September to November, the bay is filled with a crystal clear blue world known as "blue water," unique to the Kuroshio Current, and from December to February and May to June, the sea conditions are the most stable, allowing you to enjoy diving in the calm waters.

Sandstone and mudstone have accumulated over the years, and strange rock formations eroded by the forces of nature stretch out to the southwest on the seabed. This unique topography creates a mystical sight that makes you feel as if you have wandered into another world.
There are several crevasses dotted in the open ocean, and there are plenty of irresistible spots for geological divers! The moment when the sunlight reflects off the oddly shaped rocks in the clear water, creating beautiful shadows, is truly a spectacular sight.

The snorkeling location is about a 5-minute boat ride from Tatsukushi Fishing Port. It is a beach called Bannoko. It is not accessible by car, so it has remained in its natural state since ancient times.
The white sandy beach stretches out before you, and if you swim a little further you'll find a sea of coral reefs. There are lots of cute fish living in the coral reefs.

Tatsukushi Marine Park
Located within Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park, Tatsukushi Bay, which forms a subtropical underwater landscape with corals and colorful fish, was designated as Japan's first marine park (marine park) in 1970. (The law was revised in XNUMX, and the bay is now called "Tatsukushi Marine Park.")
Four areas (areas 4 to 1) have been identified within the bay, each offering a unique underwater landscape.

Cape Ashizuri Observation Deck
Cape Ashizuri is the southernmost cape in Shikoku, located in Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park. The view from the observation deck is 270 degrees!
The huge ships passing by and the horizon in the distance appearing to be arched make you realize that the Earth is round!
It's also a great spot to watch the sunrise, and many people visit every New Year's Day to see the first sunrise of the year.
