Tsuruga Castle
Tsuruga Castle (Wakamatsu Castle) is generally called Tsuruga Castle by locals, but outside of the local area it is called Aizu Wakamatsu Castle, and some of you may have heard of it. Tsuruga Castle is said to have begun about 630 years ago when Naomori Ashina built its predecessor, Higashi Kurokawa-kan, and it was an impregnable castle that withstood fierce battles lasting about a month during the Boshin War. It was hailed as a famous castle, and its name became known throughout the world. It was demolished in 40, leaving only the stone walls, but it was rebuilt in 13, and in XNUMX, the building next to the castle tower, ``Hanishiyagura/Minamishirashi Nagaya,'' was restored using construction methods and techniques from the Edo period. Oyakuen Garden
Oyakuen, located a 7-minute walk from Tsuruga Castle (Wakamatsu Castle), is said to have its origins in the Muromachi period when Morihisa Ashina built a villa on this land where a spiritual spring gushed out. The name comes from the meandering landscape garden with a heart-shaped pond in the center and the medicinal herb garden where various medicinal herbs, including Korean ginseng, are grown, and it is affectionately known as Oyakuen. In XNUMX, it was designated as a national scenic spot as a representative daimyo-style landscape garden of the Tokugawa period.
