The finest Omi beef and the relaxing flavors of a long-established restaurant.
Located in Takashima, Shiga Prefecture, surrounded by the tranquility of Lake Biwa, Marumo Ryokan is a ryokan with a proud history of over 70 years. The Omi beef sukiyaki and shabu-shabu are particularly recommended. Authentic sukiyaki, prepared without the Kansai-style dashi sauce, offers a taste of Marumo's unique ingenuity. The shabu-shabu is served in a piping hot special broth, which removes excess fat for a perfect balance of tenderness and freshness. The special ponzu sauce adds a refreshing touch, allowing you to fully enjoy the natural flavor of the Omi beef.
There is also a wide selection of local sake made with spring water from the local Takashima area and the famous water of Harie, and pairing it with Omi beef is one of the pleasures. The hotel also has a warm, homey atmosphere and is conveniently located near the station (8 minutes' walk from Omi-Imazu Station).
With its exquisite Omi beef dishes and heartwarming hospitality, Marumo Ryokan will add a touch of elegance to your Shiga travel memories. Be sure to visit and enjoy the flavors and attention that only this area can offer.

Takeo Island
Chikubujima, located in the northern part of Lake Biwa, has been worshipped by people since ancient times as an island where gods reside. It is counted as one of the Eight Views of Lake Biwa and has been the setting for numerous historical dramas and movies. Home to shrines and temples, including Hogon-ji Temple, the 30th temple on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage, the entire island is attracting attention as a power spot. Sights to see include the Hogon-ji Karamon Gate, a national treasure from the Azuchi-Momoyama period, the Tsukubusuma Shrine Main Hall, and the Hogon-ji Funa Rokaku, an important cultural property. There are a few stairs, but as the island is small, it's easy to get around.

Metasequoia Namiki
Approximately 2.4 metasequoia trees are planted along a 500-kilometer stretch, harmonizing with the distant Nosaka Mountains. They were originally planted as part of the "Learning from Makino Soil" school farm development project, but they have been lovingly nurtured, cultivated, and grown by local people, resulting in the majestic appearance they have today. The trees captivate visitors throughout the seasons, with the budding buds and fresh greenery of spring, the deep green of summer, the autumn leaves, and the bare trees and snowflakes of winter.

Shirahige Shrine
There is a large vermilion torii gate in the middle of the lake, and the main shrine building is located across National Route 161. Also known as Omi's Itsukushima, this is the oldest shrine in Omi, boasting a history of over 2000 years since its founding. Known as the god of longevity and prolonged life, it is also the "god of guidance" for all human endeavors and work. With Okishima Island floating on the horizon in the background, the sight of fishing boats passing through the torii gate in the lake is an indescribably mystical sight. The shrine is also famous for its "Naruko Mairi" ritual.
