A rewarding time in an open-air bath with a view of the sky and forest.
The open-air bath with a view of the cherry blossoms is appealing because of the sense of openness that comes from its elevated location. With nothing obstructing your view, the moment you immerse yourself in the bath, the mountains of Okuyunohira and the sky spread out before you.
The cool, crisp mountain air, the scent of the trees, the sounds of insects reaching your ears—nature gently speaks to your five senses, and the tension of everyday life seems to melt away.
Yunohira Onsen's alkaline simple hot spring is also known as the "beauty spring," with a smooth texture that leaves your skin feeling moisturized after bathing. On clear nights, enjoy a quiet luxury while gazing at the stars.

A creative kaiseki meal that allows you to gently savor the flavors of Oita.
The meals at Hanatokari are seasonal creative kaiseki cuisine that complements the tranquility of Okuyunohira. Using an abundance of local mountain and sea delicacies, the head chef carefully prepares each dish, with seasonal ingredients taking center stage.
One of the highlights is being able to savor steak made with Oita's proud "Oita Wagyu (A4 rank or higher)." In addition, the table will be adorned with local delicacies such as homemade konjac with a gentle flavor.
Start your day off right with a delicious breakfast that nourishes both body and soul. With a selection of Oita's local sake available, this inn allows you to savor the food at your leisure, while enjoying the lingering feeling of a relaxing bath.

The luxury of a single building, the charm of a single inn.
The guest rooms at Hanakari are scattered throughout the Yufu forest in separate buildings and cottages (a total of 8 buildings). All rooms have both an indoor and an open-air bath, allowing guests to enjoy the soft waters of Yunohira at their own pace. The open-air baths are constructed of rock or granite, offering stunning views of the valley, mountain ridges, and the changing seasons.
Waking up to the sound of birdsong in the morning and gazing at the starry sky in the quiet of the night—such "high-quality country time" makes the stay itself special.
The main building also offers a variety of simple and warm amenities, including a footbath perfect for a quick stop during your trip, a room with a charming hearth, a lounge where you can read novels and newspapers, and a souvenir shop featuring high-quality products from Oita. Renting a colorful yukata (summer kimono) and taking a stroll along the cobblestone streets of Yunohira Onsen is also highly recommended.

Location

Lake Kinrin
Lake Kinrin, located in the naturally rich area of Yufuin, is one of the most famous tourist spots in the area.
The lake was originally called "Gake-n-shita-ike" (the pond below the mountain) in the Oita dialect because it is located below Mt. Yufu. It is said that in 1884 (Meiji 17), the Confucian scholar Mori Kuso named it "Lake Kinrin" (Golden Scales) after seeing the scales of the fish in the lake shining in the setting sun.
There are walking paths around the lake, where you can watch fish and waterfowl swimming, making it a perfect place for a stroll.
Additionally, in the early morning hours from autumn to winter, you can see Lake Kinrin shrouded in a fantastical morning mist.

Yunotsubo Kaido
Yunotsubo Kaido, located about 30 minutes on the road from JR Yufuin Station to Lake Kinrin, has around 40 shops, including souvenir shops selling Oita's specialty yuzu kosho and other local delicacies, as well as restaurants serving local delicacies such as toriten. The most famous is the "Yufuin Gold Award Croquette." This croquette won the gold award at the "National Croquette Competition" held by NHK, so if you come to Yunotsubo Kaido, be sure to try it at least once.
There are many other sweet shops, including "Yufuin Milch" which sells baked donuts without deep frying, and "Purin Dora" which is a dorayaki with a pudding sandwiched between two pancakes from "Hanakoji Kikuya". If you want to walk around to work up an appetite, we recommend the Oita Riverside area, which is just one street away. You can enjoy the unique atmosphere of Yufuin.

Sightseeing horse carriage
The horse-drawn carriage tours, a popular attraction in Yufuin, Yufu City, Oita Prefecture, offer a charming and atmospheric sightseeing experience as you travel through the tranquil hot spring town in a carriage.
Starting and ending at JR Yufuin Station, this leisurely 60-minute tour takes you through the Yunotsubo Street area and surrounding rural landscapes. Along the way, accompanied by the sound of horse hoofs, you can enjoy a guided tour by the driver, learning about the history of Yufuin and Mount Yufu. The charm lies in being surrounded by nature in every season and viewing the town from a different perspective than when walking. Particularly popular with overseas travelers, this is a representative tourist activity of Yufuin, where you can experience the quintessential Japanese scenery and the tranquil atmosphere unique to a hot spring resort.
